Portland Conservatory of Music is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community music school in Portland, Maine, for all ages, abilities and financial circumstances.

We believe that high quality music education should be available to everyone and strive to make that happen.

Mission

Our mission is to provide access to quality music education for community members of all ages, abilities, and financial levels.

The school provides musical instruction in piano, voice, strings, winds, percussion and brass instruments. We also teach music theory, history and the literature of music and music performance.

We promote music in the community by sponsoring concerts, festivals,  lectures and other public performances, and we actively seek to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the study of music and related programs in our community.

History

Founded in 1995, the Portland Conservatory of Music has provided exemplary music education for students ages 1-90+ for over 23 years, leading the way for other music schools in the region and throughout the state of Maine.

Originally located on Free Street in downtown Portland, PCM moved to the third floor of Woodfords Congregational Church in 2008 and to a new home at 28 Neal Street in Portland’s West End in September, 2021.

Throughout our history, we’ve offered a wide variety of musical instruction,  educational programs, and access to high quality music through our free and low-cost performances and festivals.

World-renowned musicians have performed including Frank Glazer, Elliott Schwartz, Marc Johnson, Trond Saeverud, the Portland String Quartet, Duncan Cumming, Elizabeth Austin, George Lopez, Tamara Poddubnaya, and many more.
