Violinist Robert Lehmann is Professor of Music and Director of Strings and Orchestral Activities at the USM School of Music where he conducts the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his duties at USM, he is Music Director of the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, and the White Mountain Bach Festival in New Hampshire. He holds degrees in Violin Performance from the University of the Pacific, the Eastman School and Boston University. Dr. Lehmann has concertized as violinist and conductor, in his native Mexico, throughout the US, Puerto Rico and in Europe and Ukraine and has been of frequent guest conductor of the Portland Symphony. He is first violinist of the Meliora Quartet and concertmaster of the PORTOpera and Choral Art Society. Dr. Lehmann resides in Scarborough with his wife Kim, a violist with the PSO, and his two sons, Eric and Alex.
Violist Kimberly Lehmann is a member of the Portland Symphony orchestra. On the faculty of the Portland Conservatory of Music, she has coached violin and viola sectionals and chamber music for the Longwood Symphony, Brandeis University, Wellesley College, the Greater Boston Youth Symphonies and the USM Youth Ensembles. She has adjudicated auditions for the New England Conservatory Youth Orchestras and for Maine District Festivals. Ms. Lehmann has also performed solo works with the Portland Chamber Orchestra, the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salem Philharmonic and the Longy School of Music. In addition, she has an interest in violin repair and completed a course at the Hans Nebel Violin Repair Workshop while she was manager of the rental department at Johnson String Instrument in Newton, MA.
Ferdinand (Dino) Liva, violinist and conductor, comes from a musically prominent family in northeastern Pennsylvania. He began studying the violin at age seven with his father, a noted conductor and teacher, and continued his education at the Peabody Conservatory with Berl Senofsky. He then studied at Temple University, where he earned a Master’s degree, as well as a Professional Studies Certificate. In 1991, he became one of the founding members of the DaPonte String Quartet, which has received numerous awards from Chamber Music America and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Quartet has performed on many concert series in the U.S., also touring in Canada and Europe. In 2015, the DaPonte String Quartet will release a new recording of Mendelssohn and Beethoven quartets on Centaur Records. Mr. Liva spent four years as Assistant Professor of violin and chamber music at Wilkes University, and conductor of the University Orchestra. He currently teaches a private studio of students, conducts the Sea Coast Youth Orchestra and the Sea Coast Community Orchestra, has conducted the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra and University Orchestra, and teaches violin as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Maine.
