Plucked-string specialist Timothy Burris will bring a program of 19th- and early 20th-century music for classical guitar to Great Diamond Island on Thursday July 6th . The program will include works of Spanish guitarist/composers from Julian Arcas to Francisco Tárrega (from the region of Almería) to several composers from Cataluña (José Ferrer, José Viñas, Jaume Bosch i Renard, and the best known, Miguel Llobet).

Mr Burris will sketch the cultural milieu that gave rise to this hotbed of creative fervor for the guitar—and the arts in general. The guitar used in the program will be a modern copy of a guitar by Antonio Torres’ FE17, built in 1864.
