Registration
All students must register with PCM and pay a yearly registration fee of $40. This one-time (non-refundable) fee covers the entire academic year, September through August, and allows students to take any number of private lessons and/or group classes, in addition to several other benefits offered to PCM students.
Make-up Policy
By registering and paying for private lessons, students commit to a consistent schedule with their instructor. As such, students are expected to attend all scheduled lessons and to give as much notice as possible when a cancellation is necessary. During fall and spring billing cycles, all students are entitled to one excused absence (requiring 24 hour notice) per cycle to be made up free of charge. We specifically designate a Make-Up Week at the end of the semester for this purpose. Any additional lessons missed by the student will not be made up or reimbursed. All lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be considered unexcused and will not be eligible for a make-up.
While a consistent, weekly schedule is expected during the fall and spring billing cycles, a more flexible schedule is allowed during the summer cycle. This schedule must be agreed upon prior to the start of the summer cycle and will be reflected in the registration invoice for the summer cycle. Due to the more flexible nature of summer scheduling, there are no make-up lessons built into the summer billing cycle. All student absences in the shorter summer cycle are ineligible for a make-up.
Private Lesson Billing
Private lessons are billed in accordance with PCM’s academic calendar. Tuition for each billing cycle is due before the first lesson of that cycle. Students enrolling during the course of a billing cycle will be billed for the remainder of that cycle. Continued enrollment from the Fall billing cycle (September – January) to the Spring billing cycle (January – June) will be assumed and students will be automatically enrolled unless notice is given to the PCM office before December 1st. Notification of lesson discontinuation after December 1st will incur a fee for the first four lessons of the Spring billing cycle. Payments for each billing cycle can be made in full or via a payment plan. Payment plans can be set up directly through ASAP and will incur a $25 processing fee. Late payments will incur a $25 late fee.
PCM Closings or Teacher’s Absence
If PCM closes due to inclement weather, an announcement will be made via email and/or posted on PCM’s website. All private lessons missed because of a PCM closure or an instructor’s absence are eligible to be made up. If lessons cancelled due to PCM closure or teacher absence cannot be made-up, remaining lessons will be credited to the student’s account.
Where possible, cancelled group classes will be made up during PCM’s make-up week, or at separate arranged time. Not all cancelled group classes can be made-up, but every effort will be made to do so.
Refund Policy
No refunds will be given for private lessons after the 4th lesson of a semester. There are no refunds for Group Classes.
Return Check Policy
Portland Conservatory of Music charges a fee of $25.00 for every returned check.
Unaccompanied Children
Children under the age of 16 must not be left unattended while at PCM.
